cloudbet Here’s why an inspector stopped production of two products at a Miami food company
A state inspector slapped a North Miami-Dade food processor with a Stop Sale Order on Lemon Blend Concentrate and Stop Use Orders on production of the concentrate and Bitter Orange Marinade.
The problem at Quiskeya Foods, 3500 NW 71st St., as described by Inspector Araceli Harvie: labeling that didn’t tell the entire truth and “processed without manufacturing controls to ensure and prevent the growth of undesirable microorganisms.”
The Florida Department of Agriculture’s Harvie came by Quiskeya, also known as Caribbean Foods Company, from the Florida Department of Agriculture on Sept. 17 and found enough problems to give the place “Re-Inspection Required,” the lowest result from an Ag Department inspection.

Here’s some of what the inspector found:
“The Quiskeya Lemon Blend and Quiskeya Bitter Orange were processed without manufacturing controls to ensure and prevent the growth of undesirable microorganisms.
“There are no processing records and the product has not been evaluated by a process authority to determine its classification.”
Caribbean Foods Company President Patrick Louissant said they’ve been producing those marinades for less than a year, and “I was not aware something like that was needed.”
That drew the Stop Use Order on the production of both products and a Stop Sale on the 22 boxes, each filled with 12 12-ounce bottles, of the Lemon Blend.
Also:
▪ “The Lemon Blend from concentrate label lists the ingredients as lemon juice from concentrate (water, concentrate lemon juice), sodium bisulfite, citric acid, sodium benzoate and lemon oil...” But according to what Caribbean Foods provided, Larvie wrote, “you are missing the ingredients gum acacia and yellow (food coloring) No. 5, and you use lime concentrate not lemon.” Also, Caribbean’s specifications say the Lemon Blend doesn’t have sodium bisulfite or benzoate.

▪ “A mop sink with running water and proper drainage must be installed within 30 days.”
▪ The bay doors, which lead to food storage and packing lines, were left open when they weren’t in use and have gaps under them.
▪ “There were spider webs above the wet filling machine.” Managers told the inspector the machine hadn’t been used in two weeks.cloudbet
